“Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat!” Is. 55:1
The garden’s harvest makes it to the table. Just before the trees empty their branches, lay a patio table with a quilt. Set the table for your guests — plates and napkins, with silverware bundled. A place card will leave a lasting impression with your guest’s name and a quote that matches their personality. A natural, holy affection is easily stirred.
Hospitality in the Bible is not modern entertaining, but loving strangers and those you know alike. The Greek word literally means “love of strangers.” This October, welcome a new ‘someone’ without trepidation. Consider inviting an unfamiliar face to your table.
“Of all the seasons, autumn offers the most to man and requires the least of him.
Hal Borland (1900–1978), American writer, journalist and naturalist.
