A Passing Word

Most words pass through our minds and fade without a trace.

Rare words can change our lives, and I have found that readily available words surfaced at precisely the right time have shaped my life.

We read, speak, and think words in a large quantity each day, but a few remain lodged in the crevices of our souls and resurface occasionally with forceful impact. These words, or phrases, pressed together become the structural engineers of thought through which we interpret experiences. Particular words shape the foundation of how we navigate life.

Believers in Christ often have Scripture tucked in the fissures of their minds, permeating perception, supporting purpose, and establishing comportment.

The life-changing word spoken to someone may not be a Bible verse. My experience has been it is the language of mercy when anger was expected. Or expression of composure when chaos was due.

“Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones”. Proverbs 16:24

Just one sentence. At the right time. Christ’s words do not simply inform us, nor do they fade; they form us, until our lives begin to speak His language.

What words will resurface for you today?

Prayer:

Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer. Psalm 19:14
