Does God Exist?

Humanity can be a stubborn lot. One sibling will stomp a foot and say to the other, “You aren’t the boss of me! or “I can run faster than you.” We are constantly trying to prove our superiority, even to our closest family members. It is in the same vein that we cannot accept that there is a Holy God who has created all that is and was and is sovereign over all, and who can run faster than us.

Reverend Billy Graham was asked many times whether God existed. Here is a portion of a response he gave in his My Answer column:

“Let me ask you a question: You and I have never met, so how do you know I even exist? The answer is obvious: You know I exist because you’ve seen enough evidence to convince you I exist—perhaps a photograph, or a conversation with someone who has seen me. And the same is true with God…”

Some say science doesn’t support God’s existence because it cannot be proven through a complex equation. Happiness, beauty, and love cannot be proven or measured by a laboratory experiment, either, yet that doesn’t mean they aren’t real.

“Since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made” (Romans 1:20) There is one gospel, four accounts; each one answers the queries of readers, generation to generation. Faith is not unreasonable. We act upon it every day: drive a car with faith in other drivers, sit in a chair with faith in its sturdiness, or have faith that the sun will rise and set at its prescribed time. Faith is not the denial of evidence, by no means; it is the response to it.

Does God exist? Observing the Red Fountainbush affirms my

faith in happiness, beauty, love, and God.

“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” Hebrews 11:1

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, guard me from a faith that refuses to think or to see clearly. Teach me to trust You through what I observe, even in chaos. Help me to recognize Your goodness, even in a world that is not yet whole and strengthen my faith to rest in what is unseen, while holding fast to the truth of who You are. Amen.
