“An ounce of mother is worth a ton of priest.” –Spanish Proverb
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud…. 1 Cor. 13:4
Our own family knows whether Christ lives in us. It is far easier to live a magnificent life among our friends when we are conscious of public opinion than to live for Christ in our own home.
Billy Graham once said, “Only God Himself fully appreciates the influence of a Christian mother…” The world may overlook the everyday sacrifices of motherhood, but heaven never does.
The influence of a Christian mother in molding children is fundamental in every generation. A very sorrowful truth is that some of the greatest criminals of history have had bad mothers. The Bible tells of evil mothers coming to desolate, sad ends: Herodias and the woman before Solomon are a few. On the other hand, noble characters and fine leaders of history have had good, God-fearing mothers: John Wesley’s mother Suzanna, Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s mother Paula, Abraham Lincoln’s stepmother Nancy, and Augustine of Hippo’s mother Monica.
A godly mother embodies values that shape the household’s spiritual, emotional, and moral fabric. She often prioritizes prayer, reading, and reliance on God, creating an atmosphere where faith is central.
Mom models character traits such as kindness and humility. She nurtures relationships through selfless love and helps shape her child’s worldview with God at the center. This Sunday, we honor mothers.
Lift every mother in Prayer:
Lord God Almighty, help each mother to avoid giving way to bad temper, impatience, fault-finding, sarcasm, unkindness, suspicion, or laziness at home each day. Instead, reveal the fruit of the Spirit and Christian virtues that shine Christ daily.
Thank you for motherhood and the rich blessing of life. Help all to be gentle and kind to each woman they meet and respect the gift of family. Amen
