“LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!..
“What is a man, that

thou art mindful of him?” Psalm 8:1,4
Browsing through some files, I took notes from a Billy Graham sermon (given circa 1960s) to steer me in the new year:
God is a God of love
He wants to come into your life
You can’t prove that God exists
You can’t put God in a test tube.
There is a supreme being.
You accept God by faith
This universe is one that works in perfect precision like a beautifully made watch.
When Helen Keller, (blind and deaf and dumb) -when her helpers communicated “God” to her, she said, “I knew him but I did not know his name.”
There is a God-the world will tell you differently
He is a Spirit and he created the world and he does not change.
He loves us with everlasting love.
He is from everlasting to everlasting.
He has the hairs of your head numbered. (simple, yet complex)
He is the driver of your life and everything that has ever happened.
Christians know new starts are available anytime, they are not dictated by a calendar to start new. God’s steadfast love never ceases,
BUT, a physical flip of the calendar may inspire you to reset the heart and restore the habit of returning to Christ for a fresh start that is always growing.
How would you respond to Billy’s sermon?
Here are a few “refreshed views” I considered:
- Pray for guidance (James 1:5)
- Forgive those who have hurt you (Col.3:13)
- Love others (Matt. 22:37-39)
- Take care of yourself (1 Cor 19:20)
- Value friendships (Ecc. 4:9-11)
- Help those in need (Matt. 25:34-40)
- Teach with intelligence (2 Tim 2:23-24)
- Be a role model (Titus 2:7)
Prayer
Heavenly Father, Thank you for letting your light shine every day of the year. Thank you that we may lift our eyes to you and you bring all things into order, even in difficult times. Give our hearts the strength to be faithful in this age and fortify us to glorify you. Amen
