Giving thanks for the opportunity to give Glory to God
“To be grateful is to recognize the Love of God in everything.” -Thomas Merton
Colossians 3:17
And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. NIV
…None of this going off and doing your own thing. And cultivate thankfulness. Let the Word of Christ—the Message—have the run of the house. Give it plenty of room in your lives… (The Message, translation Eugene Peterson)
Paul writes with a broad stroke–do it all for the glory of God and be thankful! Our old nature is to be self-centered and live for our own glory, but the new transformed person lives for expression of mercy, kindness and thankfulness. Our Christian life reflects our relationship with God, which can be conveyed simply in how we treat others and the quality of our relationships. Consider how you will communicate The Message to give glory to God this Thanksgiving week. Give it plenty of room.
A prayer before you gather with family and friends:
O Lord, give us more charity, more self-denial, more likeness to thee. Teach us to sacrifice our comforts to others, and our likings for the sake of doing good. Make us kindly in thought, gentle in word, generous in deed. Teach us that it is better to give than to receive, better to forget ourselves than to put ourselves forward, better to minister than to be ministered unto. And to thee, the God of love, be all glory and praise, now and forever.
