Often, my morning walk begins before dawn and I depend on the street lights to brighten the pathway I navigate. The stars fade in the east and birds chitter with the early morning runners hastening by me. What blurs in daylight becomes clear in this daybreak ritual:
God made the heavenly lights and set the foundations of the earth, He placed the earth among the waters and parted the Red Sea to deliver Israel. God gives food to every living thing and remembers our weaknesses. I can never escape His presence. His workmanship is marvelous and God gives strength to kings and servants and guides my day.
Happy is the singing Northern Mockingbird who continues to add songs to its repertoire its entire life as my circuitous walk ends. Now, the sun rules the day.
My repertoire of God’s omniscience has been bolstered.
Bird and walker fortified.
Prayer:
—
Heavenly Father,
Wake up, my heart!
I will wake the dawn with my song.
I will sing your praises, for your unfailing love is as high as the heavens
Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds; you are to be exalted!
Amen (from Psalm 57)
