“What comes to our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us…”
-A.W. Tozer
I was thinking God is omnipotent. He has unlimited power.
Ah, Sovereign Lord, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you. Jeremiah 32:17
What are the implications of God’s omnipotence? I cannot fathom! I combed through some of the great commentators and this counsel helped me:
- No power or will can ultimately thwart his purposes. This is what Job found out at the end of his trials. At the end, Job humbly bows before God, acknowledging his ways are beyond human comprehension.
- “For He cannot die, cannot lie, cannot deceive… yet this is not impotence, but the highest power.”- St. Augustine
- No matter how great the need, God’s resources are never depleted. God created the heavens and the earth, and humanity, over what is conceptualized as seven days. He has unlimited power to create, sustain, and rescue. His riches are never depleted.
If God were not omnipotent, then Jesus would still be dead.
When life becomes hard or impossible, consider He who had all power became weak and knows what it is to die. At the cross, God revealed his omnipotence in a radically reordered way. Redemption by Divine command, “With God nothing is impossible.” -Luke 1
Pray: For the Lord God omnipotent reigneth! Amen – Rev. 19:6 KJV
