I Was Thinking Part II

“What comes to our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us…”

-A.W. Tozer

I was thinking God is omniscient. He knows everything. The “omni” attributes of God are incommunicable. They are aspects of His being which humanity does not possess.

“Great is our Lord, and abundant in power;

his understanding is beyond measure.” Psalm 147:5

My next-door neighbor is a retired doctor. He worked internationally as well as in the United States, an energetic man. Now, still very industrious, he loves to work in his garden and fix anything that is broken. He often tinkers in the yard as we ladies are talking. I ask his wife, “What is Doc up to?” She gives a wave and says, “God only knows!”

Her inference that the Creator of the universe could only know what is happening in her bustling husband’s mind and hands supports God’s omniscience. Only God would not be surprised at what he is fixing now.

God’s omniscience produces awe and reverence, although it is not abstract for the Believer; it is covenantally personal. We must acknowledge that the world will never be completely comfortable with “The God who sees me“, as Hagar, the Egyptian slave woman,  called God, after the Lord sent an angel to encourage her. (Gen 16:13). He does see us and knows every single part of us. Tinkering retiree or a shunned slave woman.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, Fill us with your immeasurable peace as we trust in your perfect knowledge and infinite wisdom for our lives. You are the everlasting God who never faints or grows weary and no one can fathom your understanding. God only knows! Amen
