Journey On

A day hemmed in by prayer is less likely to unravel.

When traveling, it is common to let others know your plans. There are many ways to say you are going somewhere:

  1. I’m going on a trip
  2. I’m off on an adventure
  3. I’m going to explore new places
  4. I’m going on a vacation
  5. I’ll be on holiday
  6. I’m off to see the world
  7. I’m embarking on a journey

When I say I am going on a journey, it implies changes, transitions,  and challenges. A journey focuses on the process of getting there, not the arrival. Think of Paul’s missionary journeys.

A journey may be frustrating or exhilarating- most have combinations of both.

A journey is a rich and relatable metaphor for faith because it mirrors the lived experience of walking with God—full of movement, change, challenge, and growth.

Do Christians awaken each morning with a sense of their journey?

Am I being obedient in this unknown territory? What transformation has occurred as I face this challenge? Where do I encounter God’s presence in the wilderness? Do I trust God’s providence in the stormy seas? How do I praise God for leading me to green pastures and still waters?

Prayer:

Still round the corner there may wait, A new road or a secret gate.”

 -J.R.R. Tolkien

Lord, guide me round and through, knowing where and when my path will lead. Amen
