John 19

“One should never initiate anything that he cannot saturate in prayer.” -Anonymous

“It is finished, that is, sin is finished, and an end made of transgression, by the bringing in of an everlasting righteousness.”

–from Matthew Henry’s complete commentary on John 19

Jesus breathed out his soul, and all the prophecies of the Old Testament were accomplished. The work of man’s redemption and salvation is now complete.

Genesis 4:

Cain and Abel: One sacrifice for each man.

Exodus 12:

The Passover: One sacrifice for each family

Leviticus 16:

Day of Atonement: A sacrifice for Aaron’s family and the entire nation of Israel

John 1:

John the Baptist declared, “Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.”

John 19

Jesus is put to death at the same time that the Passover lambs are being slaughtered.

“…Our paschal lamb, Christ, has been sacrificed”  1 Cor 5:7

Prayer:

Almighty God, Jesus had said when entering his trial, “thy will be done,” and now he says, “It is done.” He who now lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, One God forever and ever. Look with mercy to all who wait in the expectation of seeing you face to face. Amen
