February is sometimes called the month of “Love.”
What does love mean to you?
In tennis, “love” represents a score of zero. This use has existed since the late 1800s, and it is not certain how it came to be. The most likely theory is that those with zero points still played for the “love of the game” despite their losing score. How love became a word for zero is baffling, but so is the overall scoring system for tennis.
What is love to a Christian? In October 2006, a gunman entered a one-room Amish schoolhouse in Nickel Mines, PA. He took the lives of five young girls and injured five others before taking his own life. What followed stunned the world. Members of the Amish community extended forgiveness to the shooter and embraced his grieving family. Baffling to the world how drenched in sorrow, the families chose love over hatred and peace over bitterness. How could they forgive?
The answer is the transformative power of God’s unfailing love.

Their faith was not a set of doctrines but a lived experience. The Amish knew that God’s love was shining upon them in their grief and demonstrated the power of God’s unfailing love. God’s love is unchanging and constant and empowers us to do the unimaginable. It forgives, heals, and makes us new.
