Stand On

“God is more interested in your future and your relationships than you are.” –Billy Graham

“The world is so you have something to stand on..”from the children’s book, A Hole is to Dig, by Ruth Krauss

Arising early, I walk down my driveway to pick up the newspaper. Depending on the time of year, sunlight or moon darkness covers my footsteps. Most mornings I cannot resist looking to the mountain behind our home. A full view of Piestewa Peak is less than 100 steps away. In darkness, tiny lights are bobbing their way up the mountainside trail as predawn hikers seek the sunrise view. On summer days, a dark blue sky highlights the summit’s sharp tip.

“Good Morning, rocky eminence,” declare my thoughts.

The day goes forward and I go to and fro. Daily rhythms bind humanity together, regardless of where and when we live.  Day-Night, seasons, work-rest, aging, grief and joy. The rocky eminence stands tall and will greet the next generation.

“The sun is to tell you when it’s every day…”

-From a Hole Is To Dig

Sunrise, Sunset…God created the world so the sinner and saved would have something to stand on each morning. Declare your thoughts to the One who gave us something to rest, lean, pivot, hang –and stand upon.

“You are just a vapor that appears for a little while then vanishes away.”

  James 4:14

Prayer:

Come, let us worship and bow down before the LORD our Maker, for He is our God, in whose hand created the depths of the earth and the peaks of the mountains. The sea is his, for it was he who made it. LORD-you are our strength and salvation! Amen  (from Psalm 95)
