“Without worship, we go about miserable.” -A.W. Tozer
“A time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.” John 4:23-24
There is a television show, Pardon the Interruption, or PTI, where two commentators banter back and forth on hot sports topics of the day. It is humorous and loud, and they often argue about who is right—friendly debate with props that add to their mission of entertaining and convincing their audience. As I flipped through the channels to PTI, I noticed a worship service that looked and sounded like this sports show.
How can this be?
The worshiper was full of jokes, laughter, and sparkles, and the leader told the audience their form of worship was the only way. Michael Wilbon and Tony Kornheiser, PTI commentators, might learn some lessons from this crusader.
Some modern-day worship has become a facade. To set up something that looks like you are worshiping Him is adding insult to injury. The difference between a totem pole and the God who made heaven and earth is indescribable.
The fact that man is supposedly religious at this point compounds the felony. The glory of God is switched for a lie that leads to corruptible things, waste, and degraded glitter. Jesus is not religion. Jesus is life.
Pardon my interruption, folks; I must return to sports talk.
Prayer:
Father, help us to offer worship that is pleasing to You. Show us how to worship you in truth, in keeping with the revelation of your Word. We pray our lives will be marked by authentic worship in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior. Amen
