A Word or Two…

There are worse crimes than burning books. One of them is not reading them.” -Joseph Brodsky, poet and essayist, Nobel Prize winner in literature 1987

A codex is an ancient manuscript in book form, especially of Scripture, classics, or ancient annals.

The Early Christian movement was creative in various ways, including human discourse. One area in which it advanced was new vocabulary and oral patterns. Even in the area of publication, the early Church was among the first to use new procedures that utilized the book or codex form rather than the scroll. In modern times, the Bible has been translated into thousands of languages and dialects worldwide.  Christianity has speech vitality!

The New Testament contains unique literary forms such as Gospel, Epistle, Diatribe, Parable, Canticle, and Revelation. Can you think of a similar book written today?

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God..” John 1:1

If anyone asks you if you have read a “good book”  lately… you may say, “I can recommend a good codex.” 🙂BE A BIBLE READER! Have speech vitality.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father,

We give you thanks for your Holy Word. May it be a light to our path and strength for our lives. Be with us this week. Bless and strengthen us for all the work entrusted to us. Amen
