MARCH-ing

March.

It is the third month of the year on the Gregorian calendar.

It is also a verb meaning “to walk in a military manner with a regular measured tread.”

Cultures developed marching as a way to move troops from one place to another without confusing them with civilian groups.

Soldiers march with the left foot first. One tradition is because it’s the side of the body that the heart is on and your first step is taken with what the heart symbolizes: it is the central source of life, the seat of power, courage, and strength. This legend dates back to the ancient Egyptians, where many statues display the left foot forward.

March 4th is the only day that is a command.

March “fourth!”

Marching itself is simple: put one foot before the other and keep going at a steady pace, much like becoming a disciple.

“Andrew…had followed Jesus…Finding Philip he (Jesus) said to him, “Follow me.” John 1:40,43b

The disciples put one foot in front of the other when they heard Jesus’ command and moved towards Jesus.

March 4th provides an opportunity to take risks to achieve a goal, stand against procrastination and do something.

March Forth with Jesus.

Prayer

Lord God Almighty,

Bless my feet with action and momentum. Give me strength and grace to overcome distractions and guide me forward today for your purpose.

May I draw closer to You so my feet tread in Your footsteps. Amen
