Go-Go

“To those who need encouragement, remember this: beware of quitting too soon. Dr. Seuss’s first children’s book was rejected by twenty-three publishers. The twenty-fourth publisher sold six million copies.”

– Ann Landers

Discipleship comes from the Greek word “to learn.”

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18-20)

Go, Baptize and Teach.

Jesus invested himself into twelve that would multiply his teachings. The apostle Paul poured his life into Timothy and encouraged him to continue the process.  Much is packed into the “Great Commission,” and the first word is where many get stuck: GO.

When I was little, I had a pair of “go-go” boots.  They were the rage in the 1960s, and as a 5-year-old (I may have been a bit active, and I think my parents bought them to appease my energy ), I would wear them everywhere.  We lived on a farm and I know I looked ridiculous tromping around in my go-go boots in whatever circumstance I was in or what outfit the day brought:  corduroy pants or stretchy pants, playing in the yard, to church in a dress, the grocery, Grandma’s house, feed the dog,–they could GO anywhere. Mom did not put a kibosh on the boots for this short period. She let me go-go. Perhaps I need to get another pair of these boots to inspire me.

Jesus is with us where we are going. Going is understood to be unnegotiable. Put your boots on and go.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father,

We pray that you would open doors in our workplaces, schools, activities, and relationships.  Pave the way for the conversations we will have. We pray for the next generation to go out and make disciples in their cities, states, and around the world. Amen
