It is the 22nd anniversary of the 9/11 attack on America.
“I still have the shoes I wore to work that day. The soles are melted, and they’re caked in ash. I keep them in a shoebox with the word ‘deliverance’ written all around it. They’re kind of like my ark, a reminder of God’s presence and the life I owe to him.” –Stanley Praimnath, 9/11 survivor
Sometimes there are no words to describe our experience:
Praying can be difficult sometimes. We do not know what to say when we are tired, scared, overwhelmed. Every movement hurts when stunned and too weak for physical utterances.
“…the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.” –
Romans 8:26
This kind of prayer can span time, oceans, deserts, leap over mountains, penetrate walls- to heal hearts helping power the gospel across every barrier. The presence of God’s Spirit in our lives from focused time with Him produces a close communion. It is God pleading, praying and mourning through us and we become co-laborers with God, actual partners with Him. We are lifted from a plane of selfishness to the company of heavenlies. It is not our words, it is His presence in every circumstance.
Are you eager to say with the psalmist David, “Earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you?”
Even when you think there is not a breath left inside you- go to prayer and the Spirit will abide within and utter the words. The groans from within are His words and your heart.
Prayer:
Our Father in Heaven,
You purchased every blessing I have received and my heart is the theater for your divine activity–how can I thank you for this pleasure I experience even in my lowest moments! I praise you for your gracious intercession with unending joy. Amen
